How to plan a night out in Corona

Corona is not a one-street bar town. The useful split is downtown, Dos Lagos, and the brewery taprooms on the north side. Each works for a different kind of night, and trying to cover all three in one evening means a lot of driving. Pick one area, park once, and use a rideshare if you plan to drink.

Downtown Corona: Main Street Brewery and the old-town feel

Start downtown if you want a walkable cluster of bars and restaurants. Main Street Brewery is the anchor for beer drinkers: a brewpub with house beers, burgers, and a casual room that works for groups. It is not a trendy cocktail lounge, and that is the point. You can order a flight, compare the IPA against the stout, and still have a conversation. Nearby blocks have smaller bars and restaurants that open and close, so check hours before you commit to a crawl. Parking is easiest in the public lots off Sixth Street; Main Street itself fills up after 7 p.m. on weekends.

Dos Lagos: Taps, Luna, and patio drinking

Dos Lagos is the polished option. Taps Fish House & Brewery has a long bar, house-brewed beer, seafood, and a patio that is pleasant on mild evenings. It is a restaurant first, so the bar is best for a drink before dinner or a late bite rather than a loud night out. Luna Modern Mexican Kitchen, also at Dos Lagos, is the move for margaritas and a tequila list; the patio is the reason to go. Both places get busy on Friday and Saturday, and the free parking lots can be slow to exit. If you want one drink and a view of the water, this is the area.

Skyland Ale Works: the taproom stop

Skyland Ale Works is a small Corona brewery with a taproom on Pomona Road. The appeal is simple: fresh beer, a rotating board, and a room that feels like a working brewery rather than a themed bar. Food trucks often park outside, and the schedule changes, so check the brewery’s social media before you go. This is not the place for a full dinner or a cocktail list. It is the place to try a few styles, talk to the person pouring, and leave with a growler or cans if available. Because it sits in an industrial area, plan a rideshare or a designated driver.

Corona Crossings: the group-friendly fallback

If you are with a group that cannot agree, Corona Crossings has the reliable chain options. BJ’s Restaurant & Brewhouse has a long tap list, bar seating, and late hours, and The Cheesecake Factory has a full bar if you are already shopping or seeing a movie. These are not the most distinctive bars in town, but they are useful when you need parking, a table for six, and a menu that covers picky eaters. Do not treat them as the local craft beer stop; that is what Skyland and Main Street Brewery are for.

What about neighborhood bars and wine bars?

Corona does not have a dense wine bar district. If you want wine, the best bet is a restaurant bar with a serious list, such as Taps, rather than a dedicated wine bar. For a neighborhood dive, look along Grand Boulevard and Sixth Street rather than the shopping centers. These bars are not polished, and they do not all have websites. The trade-off is cheaper drinks, pool tables, and regulars who actually live nearby. Call ahead if you are making a special trip, because hours can be irregular.

Practical notes

  • Do not plan a bar crawl around Lake Mathews. It is a reservoir with limited public access, not a nightlife district. The Santa Ana River Trail is for biking and walking, not bar hopping.
  • Happy hour is the best value at Taps and the Dos Lagos restaurants. Downtown and brewery taprooms are more about the beer than the discount.
  • Rideshare is easy in central Corona and Dos Lagos. Skyland’s industrial location is less walkable, so arrange a ride before you start drinking.
  • Check hours on social media. Small breweries and neighborhood bars change schedules for private events, holidays, and release days.
  • If you want one recommendation: Skyland Ale Works for beer, Taps for a sit-down drink and seafood, Main Street Brewery for downtown casual, Luna for margaritas on a patio.

Corona’s bar scene is best when you match the place to the night. A brewery taproom is not a cocktail lounge, and a Dos Lagos patio is not a dive bar. Pick the right one and you will have a better time than trying to hit every spot on a list.
