Opinion is Talmyn’s own argued point of view — a specific claim, defended with reasoning and evidence, on a subject where reasonable people disagree. It’s clearly labeled for exactly that reason: an Opinion piece is not neutral reporting, and we don’t want a reader mistaking one for the other.
What separates a Talmyn Opinion piece from a hot take is the same standard we hold every other format to: the argument has to actually engage with the strongest version of the opposing view, not a weakened one, and the reasoning has to be checkable — a reader should be able to see exactly why we landed where we did, not just that we did.
Why we run a dedicated format for this. Most publications blur opinion and reporting together until a reader can’t tell which one they’re getting. We’d rather be explicit: here’s our reporting, and here, clearly marked, is our actual point of view on it.
