Fort Worth Bars: A Local’s Guide
Fort Worth’s bar scene runs from Stockyards saloons to downtown cocktail rooms and Near Southside taprooms. Here are bars worth planning a night around, with addresses and what to expect.
The Stockyards
The Stockyards National Historic District is the most concentrated dose of old Fort Worth nightlife. Expect country music, cold beer, and a casual dress code.
Billy Bob’s Texas
2520 Rodeo Plaza, Fort Worth, TX 76164. Billy Bob’s calls itself the World’s Largest Honky Tonk, and the scale backs it up: multiple bars, a large dance floor, country music shows, and live bull riding on select nights. Free line dancing lessons are offered, which makes it an easy first stop if you are new to two-stepping.
Joe T. Garcia’s Patio Bar
2201 N Commerce St, Fort Worth, TX 76164. Joe T. Garcia’s is known for Tex-Mex, but the patio bar is the move on a warm evening. The landscaped patio is large, the margaritas are the draw, and the bar menu is limited. Go for the setting and the drink, not a full dinner at the bar.
White Elephant Saloon
106 E Exchange Ave, Fort Worth, TX 76164. White Elephant has been serving drinks since 1887. The wooden bar, live country music, and straightforward pours fit the Stockyards setting. It is smaller and more intimate than Billy Bob’s, and a good stop for local music.
Downtown and Sundance Square
Downtown leans toward craft cocktails, whiskey, and restored architecture. Parking is tighter here, especially on weekends.
T&P Tavern
221 W Lancaster Ave, Fort Worth, TX 76102. T&P Tavern sits in the restored T&P Station. The bar serves craft beer, whiskey, and classic cocktails in a room that makes the building’s history part of the visit. It works well for a pre-dinner drink or a nightcap.
Scat Jazz Lounge
111 W 4th St, Fort Worth, TX 76102. Scat is in the basement of the Woolworth building and has a New Orleans-style feel. Live jazz runs most nights, with classic cocktails and martinis. Seating is limited, so reservations are worth making on weekends.
Thompson’s Bookstore
140 E 3rd St, Fort Worth, TX 76102. Thompson’s is a former bookstore turned multi-level bar. The main floor has a speakeasy feel and classic cocktails. Downstairs is louder, with a DJ and more energy. The cocktail menu is inventive, and the whiskey selection is a reason to stay awhile.
Near Southside
The Near Southside is Fort Worth’s craft beer and independent bar hub. The vibe is casual, and patios matter.
Shipping & Receiving Bar
201 S Calhoun St, Fort Worth, TX 76104. Shipping & Receiving is in a former warehouse with a large patio, live music, and a strong craft beer tap list. Food trucks often park on-site, which makes it easy to settle in for an afternoon or evening.
The Bearded Lady
1229 7th Ave, Fort Worth, TX 76104. The Bearded Lady is a dive bar with eclectic decor, a patio, and a deep whiskey and craft beer list. Live music and DJ nights are common, and prices stay reasonable. It is unpretentious and easy to recommend for a group.
Craft Beer and Brewpubs
Lola’s Saloon, 2736 W 6th St, Fort Worth, TX 76107. Lola’s is known for fried chicken and live music, and it also has a solid craft beer selection. It is a good pairing of food, music, and beer.
Martin House Brewing Company, 220 S Sylvan St, Fort Worth, TX 76104. Martin House is a popular craft beer stop with innovative brews, events, food trucks, and outdoor space.
Funky Picnic Brewery & Cafe, 801 W Magnolia Ave, Fort Worth, TX 76104. Funky Picnic serves house-brewed beers and a full menu of elevated pub fare. It works for lunch or dinner with a diverse beer selection.
Other Fort Worth Bars Worth a Stop
Coyote Ugly Saloon
2617 Rodeo Plaza, Fort Worth, TX 76164. Coyote Ugly is the rowdy Stockyards option: energetic bartenders, dancing on the bar, and a crowd that came for a loud night. It is not a quiet stop.
Magnolia Motor Lounge
3005 Morton St, Fort Worth, TX 76107. Magnolia Motor Lounge books live rock, blues, and country. The room is casual, the stage is the focus, and it is a reliable spot for local live music.
Practical Notes
- Parking in Sundance Square and the Stockyards is difficult on weekends. Use rideshare or Molly the Trolley in the Stockyards.
- Check venue social media for happy hour specials and live music schedules before you go.
- Most Stockyards bars are casual. Downtown cocktail lounges may call for slightly dressier attire.
- Look beyond the main drags. Smaller bars in quieter blocks are often worth the detour.
Fort Worth’s bar scene is broad enough to fit different nights: Stockyards history and country music, downtown cocktails and jazz, or Near Southside patios and local beer. Pick a neighborhood, check the music schedule, and plan for rideshare if you are barhopping.
