Crew Carwash, a regional car wash chain, was named the number one place to work in the United States for 2026 by Glassdoor’s annual Employees’ Choice Awards — ahead of NVIDIA, Mars, ServiceNow, and every other company on the list, including some of the world’s most recognizable tech employers. The ranking is built entirely from anonymous employee reviews submitted over the prior year, covering categories like culture, career opportunities, compensation, and senior management.
Why this made the list
The reason this belongs on a best-employer list rather than a curiosity item is what it demonstrates about the category itself: the highest-rated workplace in the country, by the people who actually work there, isn’t in a prestige industry with famously generous compensation — it’s a car wash chain. That’s a genuine data point against the common assumption that employee satisfaction tracks mainly with industry glamour or pay scale, and it puts real pressure on the idea that a great workplace requires a tech-company budget.
Glassdoor’s own analysis of this year’s top employers points to the same underlying traits across very different industries — semiconductor makers and burger chains among them — inclusive culture, genuine work-life balance, and transparent leadership, rather than any single perk or pay level. Whatever Crew Carwash is doing at the level of daily management and culture, it’s producing a result larger, better-funded employers aren’t matching.
