If you're mid-playthrough and care about trophy progress, using even one cheat locks trophies out until you either restart the game entirely or reload a save from before the cheat was entered. There's no way to "undo" a cheat mid-session and get trophies back — the lockout applies for the rest of that session regardless of what you do afterward.

Where GTA cheat codes actually came from
Cheat codes aren't a GTA 5-specific feature — they're one of the franchise's oldest traditions, dating back to Grand Theft Auto III in 2001, long before smartphones existed as an in-game concept. GTA V carried that same phone system forward in 2013, and — notably — Rockstar never removed or reduced the button-combo option either, which is why both methods still work in 2026, more than a decade after the game's original release.
That continuity matters for anyone coming to GTA 5 after playing San Andreas or Vice City: the underlying philosophy (single-player only, trophies disabled, no money cheat) has stayed consistent across every mainline game in the series for over 20 years. Every mainline GTA game since GTA IV has shipped with an in-fiction phone-based cheat system, and GTA 6's confirmed in-game social-media and phone integration — shown in the August 2026 gameplay reveal — strongly suggests Rockstar will carry the same phone-cheat approach into Leonida. Expect a similar split between phone-number codes and button combinations, Story Mode-only activation, and a trophy/achievement lockout while cheats are active, consistent with what's been true since 2008. None of that is confirmed by Rockstar — it's a pattern-based expectation, not an announced feature — but it would be a genuine surprise if the studio abandoned a system it's used, largely unchanged, for four console generations in a row.
How to actually enter cheats on PS5
There are two ways to activate a GTA 5 cheat on PlayStation, and they're not equally practical:
- Button combinations, entered directly during gameplay (not while paused).
- Phone numbers, dialed on your in-game cellphone — bring up the phone, enter the 1-999 number, and the cheat fires the moment you finish dialing.

Special / hidden effects

What cheats can't do
A few genuinely useful things people search for aren't actually possible through official cheat codes, and it's worth knowing that before hunting for a code that doesn't exist:
- There's no official cheat to spawn a fighter jet. You can spawn the Buzzard attack helicopter, the Duster crop duster, the Stunt Plane, and the unlockable Dodo — but Rockstar never built a jet-spawn cheat into the base game.
